Dining Out- Week of May 2nd, 2005

Swig
Milwaukee- Water Street
***Applies to all***
Everything was served warm, not hot, and it hampered the overall taste.
Asiago Spinach & Artichoke Dip with French Baguette
Had an unidentifiable ingredient lending a unique taste differentiating it from this oft scene appetizer. Baguette slices a quarter of an inch thick (?).
Wonton-Wrapped Chicken Curry with Walnuts & Cucumber Yogurt Dip
Looked like an Asian dish, but tasted like an Indian meal. The great filling had a bit of spice giving some pizzazz which could be dialed back with the dip.
Sesame Beef Tenderloin Skewers with Teriyaki Glaze
Meaty pieces of tenderloin good for dipping in the accompanying teriyaki.
Crab Cakes with Chipotle Pesto
Had the fitting crunch and balance of crab and filler. Pesto was bland.
Gourmet Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup
Decent, but gourmet is a stretch. Suffered from not being warmer and too thick bread. Rich and thick soup.
Carrot Cake
Crumbly, but good with many layers of the classic cream cheese frosting
Chocolate Fondue
Semi-sweet chocolate with bananas, strawberries, apple slices, cheesecake
Enjoying this group dessert was hampered by a ‘tastes like Hershey’s morsels’ chocolate that was not warm enough hence too thick. The cheesecake was frozen.
Décor: Another trendy addition to the Milwaukee scene with warm earthen tones and a variety of seating options and areas.
Service: Quick with menu recommendation, slow with delivering the courses and follow-up.
3 out of 5 stars

Scottie's Cafe on the Park
Lake Mills
Turkey Burger
A well season patty further enhanced by a soft Kaiser roll.
Decor: Classic, inside and out.

Mullen's Dairy Bar & Eatery
Watertown
While they grill up a good burger, we know the purpose to stop here. It was a tough choice between Birthday Cake, Orange Pineapple, Maple Nut and Cinnamon Apple and the tree choice won out.
Soprano’s Sub Club
Wauwatosa- 91st & North

#6- Oh My Gotti
Ham, proscuittini, cappacuolo, salami, pepperoni, provolone, lettuce, tomato, onion, oregano, basil, oil and vinegar
I first considered this one, then decided it was too much and then stuck with it after the nice guys earnestly recommended it. Super sub with great bread and fresh ingredients further aided by a staff that obviously takes pride in their sandwiches.
3 ½ out of 4 stars
