Dining Out- Week of May 30th, 2005

Fred’s Parkview
Burlington

¼ lb. Slider

Outside and in there were at least a dozen signs declaring “World’s Best Burger”. It was a burger.

Decor: Anticipating a bar it was a surpise to walk in to find this tongue in groove wood adorned interior filled with families scarfing down burgers.

On my favorites list for shakes Adrian’s Vanilla Shake is great, but butterscotch is still the top echelon at this 31 year Burlington fixture.

Doyle’s Milwaukee Inn
West Allis- 73rd and Greenfield

Salad

Fresh chopped iceburg with tooth-chipping croutons and good dressing.

Roast King Salmon Fillet Parmesan-Romano Crust
Coldwater fillet coated with the cheeses and oven roasted. Served with baby spinach, tomato concase, green beans, carrots and Bavarian red cabbage

The Italian cheeses did nothing to add any flavor, only a bit of exterior surface. The fillet itself was a bit fishy. The shrimp listed on the menu was AWOL.

Décor: Dark green, dark woodwork, German steins, fresh flowers on the tables.
Service: Ssslllllooooowwwwww. They faltered big time on a splitting fee and missing leftovers. A letter will be sent.

It’s a new month already and that means a new flavor, Peach, at Cold Stone Creamery. The featured creation is Peaches & Creamery- peach ice cream with peach pie filling, banana and graham cracker pie crust. Keen observers might note that the last two months have shown soupy ice cream. I can defend them that this is unusual and am contacting them about it. Cold Stone had excellent follow up. I received an e-mail from the location owner and phone call from the headquarters in Arizona.
