Dining Out- Weekend of July 23rd, 2005

Pegasus Restaurant
West Allis

Bali Hai Pancake
Coconut pancake with pineapple and pecans

With my pancake thing this distinctive entry jumped off the menu. Ever so enjoyable the cooking took the juices out of the pineapple leaving a fibrous firmness that mated well with the coconut and the nuts added a bit of crunch.

Décor: TGOFR (Typical Greek Owned Family Restaurant)
Service: Good and welcoming.

4 out of 5 stars

Emperor of China
Milwaukee- Brady St.

Spring Roll

Crispy on the inside and outside. I ordered this since every attempt on trying to get a dialed down version of their enormous entrees was met with a non-hesitant “NO”.

Décor: What a hoot.
Service: See above.

3 out of 5 stars

The Dogg Haus
Milwaukee- Brady St.

Sante Fe
Vienna beef dog in a steamed bun with salsa, sour cream and jalapeño peppers

The tastes of the sour cream and salsa countered each other and their coldness countered the warmth of the dog and bun. Neat little new place on Brady.

Broadway Bakery & Café
Milwaukee- Third Ward

Morning Bun

Their signature bakery item looks good, but it lacks the sweetness you’d expect and has more of a dryer texture.

Grilled Chicken Salad
Grilled chicken, mixed greens, gorgonzola, raspberries, toasted walnuts and homemade raspberry vinaigrette

Bland and boring. At least it was healthy.

2 ½ out of 5 stars

The outside Milwaukee Public Market is open and at C. Adam’s Bakery I had a Blueberry Muffin with more berries than batter, a citrusy sweet Orange Mini Bundt and a basic Chocolate Chip Cookie.

They may only (re)sell Cedar Crest ice cream but R.J. and Ethel’s in Elm Grove does make their own fudge. Orange Dream was both creamy and crunchy.
