Dining Out- Weekend of October 1st, 2005

Faye’s Family Diner
Milwaukee- Forest Home & 27th
Breakfast In A Bowl
2 scrambled eggs, sausage, potatoes, gravy, cheese and toast
What you might term a skillet this bowl did indeed contain all the staples of breakfast. I asked for the gravy on the side to control the unhealthiness of this blend! Good thing based on how much this sausage laced creaminess bonded everything together.
Décor: You know it is a good spot when they have a counter and you are the only non-regular.
Service: Faye is very nice.
3 ½ out of 5 stars

Across from the UWM Campus Espresso Christoph doesn’t have the usual college coffee house appearance. The two tidy levels are very inviting with couches, stuffed chairs, bare brick, agreeable colors and local artwork.
EE-Sane Thai Restaurant
Milwaukee- East Side
Papaya Salad
Shredded green papaya, fish sauce, lime juice, dry shrimp, ground peanuts and fish paste
What made this dish was its subtlety which covered an amazingly wide range. This included sweet, spicy, crunchy, succulent, nutty, pungency and acidic.
Décor: No frills with a smattering of Asian curios.
Service: Resolute young lady was on top of it.

2 Sweet International Delight
Milwaukee- Locust & Maryland
Shawarma
Marinated leg of lamb, tomato, onion and Thaini sauce on flatbread
This bed of mixed greens is hiding some other great ingredients. The thinly sliced lamb’s smokiness was mirrored by the pita and provided the prevailing taste. This great flavor was complimented by the tartness of the sauce and brightness of the veggies.
Décor/Service: With counter service I preferred the food over the busy dim atmosphere of twenty-somethings using hookahs. (?!)
4 out of 5 stars
