Dining Out- Weekend of October 8th, 2005

Sunrise Restaurant
South Milwaukee
Homemade Corned Beef Hash
With 2 eggs, biscuits & gravy and fresh fruit
Spying several menu choices with homemade hash this was the best way to try it- unadorned. Look at this attractive mélange of skillet singed crispiness with pockets of mush then interspersed with jolts of saltiness and savory meatiness. Great biscuits had some unique taste I could not place that made them borderline sweet.
Décor: I liked walking in and hearing the buzz of folks starting their weekends.
Service: Great, and I appreciated her feedback regarding what was homemade and what was frozen (potato pancakes).

Ilija's Place
Cudahy
Chicken Dumpling Soup
Should have gotten the salad.
Pleskavica
Ground veal, pork and beef with seasonings
Not bad, not great, just boring. Wished there was a more pronounced spice taste and depth.
Décor: Quaint, almost homey.
Service: Cordial until, long story, they bestowed a desire for me to never return.
El Tondero
Milwaukee- South 13th
Sopa De Pollo
Chicken, vegetable and noodle soup
Good example of a soup with both good broth and ingredients
Sudado De Mariscos
Ocean fish, shellfish, squid, mussels, conch, shrimp and scallops cooked in a red Peruvian sauce; served with rice
A nice interspersion of seafood accented with a great broth. Crusty bread was the perfect vehicle to mop up said broth.
Décor: As you can see an old house. Think those drapes are original?
Service: If you go plan on investing a lot of time.
3 ½ out of 5 stars
