Dining Out- Week of February 28th, 2005

Sake Tumi
Milwaukee- Milwaukee Street

Godzilla Roll
Maki of tempura shrimp, avocado, cucumbers, scallions, cream cheese, tobiko and tempura flakes drizzled with unagi sauce and wasabi mayo

A captivating wide representation of taste and texture. Crunchy tempura, just the right amount of heat from the wasabi, smooth cream cheese, some sweetness, crispy veggies and creamy mayo.

Twaejigogi
Korean grilled thin slices of spicy marinated pork served with kim-chi and rice

Simply impressed as pork. No Asian influence in the taste or spiciness.

Miso Marinated Chilean Sea Bass
Broiled sweet miso marinated Chilean sea bass served with rice

Taste and texture like nothing experienced before; enough to keep you mesmerized by what was going on in your mouth. The miso was noticable, but not in the soup sense. It added a mild sweetness to the distinctive texture of the fish.

Kalbi
Grilled Korean marinated short ribs served with kim-chi and rice

Good with a modest smokiness punctuating the meat.

Viva La Mexico
Maki with hamachi, avocado, cucumbers, scallions, tobiko, jalapeños and cilantro drizzled with sriracha and pepper sauce

Very mild with the cilantro giving the accent.

Trio of Creme Brulee
Vanilla blueberry, chocolate strawberry and white chocolate currant

Smooooth good. The white chocolate and vanilla ones were the best.

Décor: The burgening restaurant scene on Milwaukee Avenue has another eye pleasing hip spot.
Service: Energetic and personable. Enthusiastic about describing menu choices.

What's Fresh! Deli

Chicken Pecan Basil Salad on Herb

Clear tasting sandwich with the herb bread matching the seasoning in the salad.

Tenuta's (second visit)
Bay View

This repeat visit was to participate in MKE newpaper’s Threeview.

Fried Meatballs, Breaded Mushrooms, Fried Ravioli, Mozzarella, Italian Potatoes

Falling on either side of the average line a typical representation of appetizers. Mozzarella crispy on the outside with salty cheese on the interior. The ample sized cheese filled ravioli were more al dente than the anticipated crispy. Standard mushrooms. Italian potatoes lacked good seasoning. Decent dense meatballs with a thin shell.

Florentine Pizza
Shitake mushrooms, spinach, chopped tomato and feta.

The savory toppings were a welcome departure from the traditional offerings. The cheese lent its’ richness, the mushrooms earthiness, the spinach a measure of greenery assertiveness and the thin and crispy crust crunch.

Cassatta
Two layers of cake filled with a ricotta cheese mixture with an iced topping.

Too sharp and bitter.

Chocolate Mousse on a Chocolate Crust

The elegant smoothness of the mousse was complimented by the weight of the crust.

Décor: Inviting quintessential neighborhood place with dark mustard walls, oak woodwork and dimly lit pendant lights.
Service: Gracious wait staff. Waitress a bit hesitant.

3 ½ out of 5 stars
