Turkey Melt
Vegetable tortilla with turkey, cheddar, cucumber, black olives, tomato and onion
Often sandwiches and wraps can be boring. This was refreshingly not. Grilled to give the exterior of the tortilla some crisp which was matched by the crunch of the veggies inside. That grilling melted the cheese and boosted the taste of some fine turkey.
Décor and Service: Counter service in a coffee shop type vibe with apparent pride in using the right ingredients.

Saxe's
Delafield
Ham, Sausage and Pepperoni tossed with Spaetzle in an Herb Sauce
The lunch menu features only sandwiches and one salad. So I figured this daily special was a good departure from the usual staple of sandwiches. Average overall, discerning the art of the spaetzle was difficult with the sauce. On a positive note this hearty mix had a rich sauce thickened even more with a sprinkling of cheese.

Décor: A variation of rooms all comfortable and unique.
Service: Great

Kreger’s Kountry Oven Bakery in Wausau is the kind of jewel that is great to find. Unassuming with cases crammed with goodies. Some cookies, donut holes and this decadent Carmel Roll.

BBQ Salmon Salad
Grilled salmon fillet tossed with chipotle BBQ sauce and mango salsa on field greens, spicy pecans, mandarin oranges with orange vinaigrette
A most unique combination and that is what made it work. The fish, BBQ sauce and salsa all competed in the taste department but worked to give interest to the taste buds. More contrast with the spiciness and citrus of the mixed greens.
Décor: Urban contemporary.
Service: Has anyone seen him?

Even in sixteen degrees you can’t pass up a frozen treat. This case it was Italian style at Gelato Caffe in Wausau where the required sampling included Cherry-Apricot, Toffee and Bob Marley (pineapple/mango) with the decision being Pumpkin Pie and Papaya.
